Personalized Christmas gifts on the cheap
I love giving gifts. I love finding something that I know would be PERFECT for so and so. I DO NOT like knowing I have to buy a gift for a specific person and not have ideas.
Normally, my fail safe back up is cash. BORING, but practical and no one asks to take it back.
The last two years I’ve come up with something pretty creatvie for a few friends and family members who have specific sports teams they like.
Last year I made a “Georgia Bulldog” themed fleece blanket for one of my friends. I found a great deal on a themed print and then did a back side of white. Unfortunately, I did not take pictures but I think it turned out pretty good and she seemed happy with it!
My husband’s aunt is a HUGE Auburn Tigers fan and she isn’t real easy to buy for. Auburn colors are burnt orange and navy, so I thought why not do the same thing with just solid colors this time.
I did take pictures this time and thought I’d share the steps.
I ordered 2 yards each of the navy and orange. You could probably get by on less, maybe 1-1/2 yards each. *just a warning the navy and orange do NOT photograph well, it’s just a weird color combo*
I sewed them together on the sides and flipped it iright side out. This leaves ONLY the ends loose. I don’t really enjoy tassles on all 4 sides so this is how I like to do it!
Then I cut 5 in long strips (cut both sides at the same time) about 1-1/2 wide alll along the top. The knotted them twice tight but not too tight and it’s done.
WAY EASY! If you don’t have access to a sewing maching or wouldn’t know what to do with it anyway just do the cutting tassles/knotting thing the whole way around. I find it’s actually easier to sew the two long sides together than cut and knot but either way would make the blanket.
Total cost less than $9.00. I got this fabric for less than $2.25 a yard which is pretty good. Does seem a bit more personal than handing someone a $10 bill! Less cheap, LOL
It doesn’t take more than 30 minutes to put this together!
